Yoga Therapy

“Yoga therapy may be defined as the application of yogic principles to a particular person with the objective of achieving a particular spiritual, psychological, or physiological goal.

Yoga therapy respects individual differences in age, culture, religion, philosophy, occupation, and mental and physical health.”

Frequently Asked Questions About Yoga Therapy

  • One-on-one yoga therapy offers an opportunity for deep exploration into all layers of the self (physical, energetic, mental/emotional, spiritual). Compared to most modern yoga classes which emphasize physical asana (postures) as exercise, yoga therapy draws from many yogic modalities (poses, breathing, visualization, vocalization, etc.) to help address an individual need or goal.

Private yoga therapy sessions can be used to enhance an existing practice, serve as a form of preventative care, be useful for rehabilitation, or act as an ally when living with disease. Each yoga therapy session is as unique as each individual.

  • One-on-one sessions begin with an 1.5 hour orienting practice and conversation so I can have a thorough understanding of your needs + goals, and assess where our work together should begin.

Following this intake + consultation, we will explore āsana (yoga poses), prānāyāma (breathing practices), rehabilitation exercises + mindfulness tools in an application uniquely designed for you. Sessions also typically include restorative yoga for deep rest. A summary of the session + suggestions for home practice are also provided.

  • Yoga therapy has been shown to be beneficial for addressing a variety of issues including anxiety and stress, depression, trauma, chronic pain, insomnia, chronic fatigue, addictive patterns, autoimmune diseases, life changing events or times of transition, and self-exploration of the mind, body + spirit.
